Melt Compounding Supervisor
 
Responsibilities:

This leadership role will direct a multi-shift team of production associates that supply and mix the raw materials for the LVT process. The process is sophisticated therefore it requires a Supervisor that is driven to understand the technology, savvy to use data to improve the process, and a coach to develop competent production associates. This department will be highly flexible and adjust schedules to create the right product required by the customer.

  • Manage the compounding department which includes a highly automated connection of silos and mixing stations to deliver the raw materials for calendar, extrusion and laminating departments.
  • Process expert for raw material delivery and mixing.
  • Manage and develop production associates that operate the equipment over multiple shifts up to and including 24/7 operations.
  • Review departmental staffing for each shift and make necessary arrangements for coverage.
  • Prioritizing the scheduled work flow of the compounding department to ensure the department is meeting company performance standards, customer specification, and delivery requirements.
  • Use SAP to monitor and improve costs
  • Manage data and results using excel and SPC software
  • Clearly communicate the business direction of the LVT plant, the required performance of each associate, and its challenges
  • Use lean manufacturing practices to achieve department excellence in safety, quality, cost and delivery
  • Maintain monthly inventory.
  • Ensure required safety training is completed for all associates on time and the documentation is properly filed.
  • Ensure all Plant Safety Rules are communicated, understood and followed.  Audit for compliance daily.
  • Assist with the development of Standard Operating Procedures and Standard Operating Conditions to reduce variation across shifts.  Audit for compliance on a regular basis.
  • Ensure that all scales are calibrated and measured at the desired frequency to maintain process integrity.

  • Work with Plant Maintenance to plan and schedule preventative maintenance on all compounding equipment.

  • And all other duties assigned.

Job Requirements

  • At least 3 years of supervisory or lead experience in managing hourly associates in industrial environment
  • Experienced in continuous production processes
  • Working knowledge of mixing compounds and extruding
  • Experienced in lean manufacturing practices such as 5S, TPM, and Kaizens
  • Must be able to use and extract data from SAP to manage inventory
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Email
  • Must be able to work in a cross functional team to design and implement continuous improvement projects
  • Results-oriented / Problem-solver / Persistent
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work flexible hours
  • Able to work under pressure and in a stressful environment
  • Able to manage projects utilizing all available resources
  • Must be able to troubleshoot issues and solve problems independently
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong team player with an ability to be hands on when necessary
  • Sense for discipline, order and neatness
